Nasa’s Artemis II mission to the Moon could end up being scuppered by the Sun, after a powerful solar flare triggered radio blackouts this week.
Astronomers observed a strong X-class solar flare erupt from the Sun on Sunday night. This immediately caused high frequency radio blackouts on Earth
UTC, following an initial eruption at 02:47 UTC and ending at 03:44 UTC. It was accompanied by a strong Type II radio
The space agencies are working together to protect space infrastructure and ensure the safety of the Artemis 2 crew.
According to the Space Weather Prediction Center, the lights could be visible along the edges of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and North and South Dakota. And that’s not all — you can also catch them in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine — and, of course, Alaska.
