A U.S. defense official said that thousands more Marines are being deployed to the Middle East on an accelerated timeline.

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is deploying another three-ship expeditionary unit — with about 2,500 Marines aboard — to the Middle East, the second such dispatch in a matter of days as President Trump attempts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.

Marines headed to the Middle East is a big increase in presence in the War with Iran. “They're called Marine expeditionary units,” Hal Kempfer, a retired Marine Corps Intelligence Officer, said.
